Between Ambition and Reality
Media was not the field Abdulaziz Mohammed Al-Shehri had initially aspired to pursue. However, being admitted to the program gave him the opportunity to explore its various areas in greater depth. Over time, he discovered that media is a broad field encompassing diverse specializations and career paths that align with his interests, particularly in communication, creating impact, and planning.
Abdulaziz says that as he delved deeper into the field, he discovered a genuine passion for it and began to see himself as capable of excelling in it in the future. What began simply as acceptance into the program gradually developed into a firm belief that media was a field in which he could pursue and achieve his ambitions.
His transition to university life was different from what he had expected. He initially assumed that it would be similar to high school, but soon realized that university required a greater sense of responsibility and self-reliance, particularly in managing his time and studies.
He notes that the beginning was somewhat challenging, but over time he was able to adapt to the new environment and learn from its demands. During his first year, he considered giving up as the reality of university life differed from his expectations, bringing with it pressure and thoughts of withdrawing. However, he continually reminded himself that God would not have placed him in this situation or field of study unless he was capable of persevering. With the support and encouragement of his family, he was able to overcome that stage and continue his journey.
Throughout his university years, his family was his greatest source of support. He recalls that his mother constantly prayed for him and encouraged him, providing him with significant motivation and inspiration. His brothers also supported and assisted him during periods of academic pressure and intensive study. He emphasizes that having his family by his side made a significant difference throughout this stage of his life.
Reflecting on graduation day, Abdulaziz says the emotions are difficult to put into words. It was a moment he had dreamed of since his first day at university, and one in which he realized that all the hard work and effort he had invested had been worthwhile.
He concludes with advice for students, emphasizing that university is not solely about grades; it is a stage in which students build themselves, develop their skills, and establish meaningful relationships. Facing setbacks at the beginning is entirely natural and should never be a reason to step back or give up.
